CHAPTER 19

KYONNA

“I can’t believe I forgot to pack spare clothes. This damn pregnancy has me being such a scattered brain,” Jewelz complained, opening the door to her house.

Jewelz was now five months, and I was a month behind her at four. While I looked more bloated than pregnant, Jewelz was the opposite. You could clearly see her pregnant belly.

We had just come from prenatal yoga and while I showered at the gym, we had to come back to Jewelz house for her to change

“Don’t you find out what you’re having this month?”

“Yes! Next week, and I can’t wait.” She did a small dance.

“I’m so excited for that part. I wanna do a gender reveal.”

Jewelz balled her face up. “Nah, I want to know. But wait you haven’t even revealed your pregnancy yet.”

“I know. I’ma do a whole shoot to reveal following up with a video of my reveal.”

Jewelz snickered and shook her head. “Never the simple one, huh?”

“You know better than that.” I giggled.

My mom and Trinity had been placed in charge of my gender reveal, and I knew my girls were gonna show up.

Jewelz started towards her steps when someone rung her doorbell.

“Can you get that?” she called out over her shoulder.

I had pulled my phone out and was scrolling through Twitter. I wasn’t paying attention when I pulled the door open.

“Face always in that phone.” My head snapped up when I heard Rhys’ smooth baritone.

“Rhys?” My eyes widened, and my breath staggered. “What are you doing here?” I blinked repeatedly.

I hadn’t seen him since I kissed him two weeks ago at my house. I was still embarrassed about the gesture and the rejection that followed. Heat crept to my cheeks, peeking up to the tip of my ears.

One corner of his mouth tipped up. “Well this is my sister’s house, ain’t it. But I came to meet yo’ brother.”

I tugged on my bottom lip with my teeth. “You know he’s not here, right?”

“He’s on his way.” His head tilted. “You gon’ let me in?”

I nodded. “Oh yeah, sorry.” I moved to the side.

Rhys walked and my chest tightened as he passed by me. My stomach twisted and instead of standing there looking like an idiot, I headed for the living room.

Rhys followed behind me and took a seat next to me.

My foot tapped and leg bounced, hating how the silence brought tension to my body.

“Rhys,” I finally spoke, shifting my body to face him. I placed my phone on the arm of the couch. “I need to apologize to you.”

“Apologize?” His brows squished together, and he rubbed his chin.

Slowly, I bobbed my head. “For kissing you. I just reacted and maybe it was the baby I don’t know, but I shouldn’t have done it.”

His tongue swiped across his lips. “Was I that bad of a kisser?”

My eyes bucked. and I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

A small smirk formed on my face. “Kyonna, you don’t have to worry about me being upset. I told you that already. Did it catch me off guard? Yes.
